Jack Tait's background is in freelance photography and also Design/Photographic Education. He claims to be the only person ever to establish two Schools of Photography: - Derby and Manchester, both becoming celebrated for creative work. He followed by "putting on the map" the only graduate Graphic Design course in Wales.

He has written and collaborated on a number of books; one, relevant to 'machine drawings', entitled Beyond Photography published by Focal Press, but now out of print and apparently collectable.
